Almost 80% of Americans admit to suffering from significant daily stress.

This stress may come as no surprise, considering how busy our lives have become in the modern world. When you are home, it’s important to do all you can to relieve some stress.

What can you change in your daily routine to help yourself relax?

Turn off the television and try adding a few drops of these essential oil scents to your diffuser or bubble bath.

1. Lavender

Lavender is one of the most popular relaxing scents for a reason. It is a familiar scent, easy to use, and easy to blend with other oils. Lavender is shown to have strong anxiolytic effects, which means it removes anxiety from the mind and body.

2. Chamomile

You have probably heard of drinking chamomile tea, but have you tried inhaling chamomile essential oil? You can put chamomile oil in a diffuser or apply it topically to reduce anxiety, pain, and digestive issues. Like the tea, chamomile essential oil has a mild sedative effect on the user.

3. Clary Sage

Clary sage has an uplifting and refreshing scent similar to fresh linen. Although it can be applied topically, clary sage works best when used in a diffuser machine. Clary sage essential oil lowers cortisol levels when inhaled.

4. Jasmine

Jasmine is one of the best scents for relaxation. The scent of jasmine flower is light and sweet, like a cool spring morning. Jasmine boosts overall mood and increases oxygen levels in the blood, aiding in relaxation.

5. Vetiver

Vetiver has a strong vanilla, leather, and wood-like scent. Some people find vetiver unpleasant, but it is beneficial for relaxation and stress relief. Vetiver is even said to help users overcome shock and nervous disorders.

6. Rosemary

Rosemary has a smooth, piney, calming scent that supports focus and memory. Diffusing rosemary while meditating or reading before bed can help you to relax and sleep. Rosemary may also improve circulation and prevent Alzheimer’s disease!

7. Sandalwood

Sandalwood relaxes the mind and aids in sleep. It is a warm, soft scent that aids in stress relief by grounding the user in their environment. Sandalwood can be applied topically with a carrier oil or diffused into the air.

8. Ylang-Ylang

The sweet, relaxing scent of ylang-ylang oil is similar to jasmine flower. Ylang-ylang can help you calm your mind and body without putting you to sleep. This makes ylang-ylang one of the best calming scents in the morning.

Invest in Essential Oil Scents

The essential oil scents on this list are proven to aid in relaxation, but they are by no means exhaustive. Choose quality over quantity when you buy essential oils, but try to purchase essential oils with variety. Play with scent combinations to find what works best for you.
