There are more than 1,300 internet service providers throughout the United States. Some of these providers cater only to businesses, while others provide internet to commercial and residential customers. Since nearly 30 percent of American business is done online, your company undoubtedly uses one of these providers.

Sometimes, the internet provided by your provider can lag or go out for various reasons. You can check your company’s network connectivity in a few different ways. Continue reading to learn what those are.

Check Your Device Settings

Sometimes the problem isn’t your internet, but instead the device you’re using to access the internet. In a business setting, this will usually be a desktop or laptop. However, it may also be a phone, tablet, or another device.

Go into your device’s settings and find the tab for network and internet. It may also be labeled as network settings. Under this label, be sure that Wi-Fi is switched on.

Check Your Access Points

If your device is connected to Wi-Fi, the next thing to check is your access points. Access points can be WAN and LAN connections. These are the Ethernet cables that run to and from your router.

First, check that these cables are securely in place by gently pushing them into the router. Check your network connectivity. If you’re still having problems, disconnect and reconnect the Ethernet cables.

Restart the Router

Sometimes, restarting your router will help restore your internet connection. First, unplug the router from the wall and wait about 30 seconds. Then, plug it back in.

Wait for the router to start back up. Usually, the device will have lights that turn green when the router is ready to go. Make sure the lights for both internet and Wi-Fi are green.

Then, reconnect your device. If you still can’t connect to the internet, or your connection is still really slow, it might be time to get professional help.

Get Professional Help

Many problems with network connectivity can be solved using the methods above. However, if all else fails, you should get professional help.

Professional assistance may come in the form of network installation support, your internet provider’s customer service, company tech support, or third-party tech support. Depending on the source, the aid may be given in person or over the phone.

Professionals will have more knowledge and tools to fix the problem. Even if they can’t solve the problem for you, they can likely determine the issue. For example, if a faulty router is to blame, the experts can tell you to purchase a replacement.

Your Network Connectivity Problems Should Be Solved

One of the methods above should solve your network connectivity problems. If nothing else works, getting professional assistance is an excellent idea.
